WOODSTOCK, GEORGIA, TIME LINE (revised July, 2010)

1963SCRA, South Cherokee Recreation Association, is organized by volunteers and would operate independently of the county or city government until the present time.
1964Priest Homefurnishings opens on May 9 in a building where W. D. Power once had a pharmacy.
Dixie Inn burns. After re-building, it would be known as Old Dixie Inn.
Woodstock Public Library opens in a store-front, the building occupied today by LKT Sports.
1965Carnes Tire Sales opens on February 11. It would later become Edwards Tire Sales.
1968On August 24, Woodstock’s youth organize and carry out a patriotic celebration termed “Up, Up with America.”
1969Cherokee Atomedic Hospital opens on July 20, the same day that Americans landed on the moon. The location was on Arnold Mill Road near today’s City Park.
1970sPopulation increase brings rapid change.
1975New Post Office opens on southwest corner of Main Street and Dupree Road.
Trailways Bus system discontinues service to Woodstock.
1979City mail delivery begins. Previously city residents and businesses had post office boxes.
1982Interstate 575 opens.
1983Evelyn Chambers becomes Woodstock’s first female mayor.
